Car Insurance Porsche (Car Insurance). The gasket valve cover and intake manifold suddenly started leaking. Its a 95 impala SS LT1 ?

The gasket valve cover and intake manifold suddenly started leaking. Its a 95 impala SS LT1 ? Tell me what you think. Valve cover gasket leak ($15 part) and intake manifold leak ($26 part). Why is this business which will rename nameless because they still have my car lol, telling me it would be an estimate of 800 dollars. Labor can't be that much can it? The LT1, I know the valve gasket is about an hour of labor but I don't know how to do it. Are they low balling me? I know that the intake manifold is a little harder to get to. But damn! Its just a gasket to stop a leak. I have one of the cleaner impalas out there and ive taken really good care of it (black all stock no extras). 800 dollars really?! Dang! Mechanic advise please.

Get at least three estimates and if you don't like any of them, then do it yourself. If you can't do it yourself, guess you'll have to suck it up and pay up. Getting more estimates is a good idea.

What would a pilot do in the event of tail rotor failure? I've been reading a little about helicopter emergency procedures, just for fun. Does this small accident affect my driver's record and will it affect my insurance in the future? I rented a car and due to my fault, when I parked my car, I scratched someone's car and caused a patch of scratch on his bumper. But, there were not obvious scratches on my car. I purchased the full insurance from the rental car company, which means that I am not responsible for any accident and the insurance covers everything. Is it necessary to report this small accident to the company or settle it privately? If I report this to the company, will this affect my driver's record? In the future, when I buy a car or rent a car, will the insurance be increased? Thank you. car insurance.

Porsche . How to Recurve a Ford Distributor

When discussing how to recurve a Ford distributor, it is good to understand the dynamics of performing such a modification. Recurving the distributor is a method of changing the timing curve. This is the timing of the spark plug firing at different RPM levels. The desired result is an increase in horsepower and acceleration with an accepted sacrifice in fuel economy and a need for higher octane fuel.
Difficulty:Challenging
Instructions Things You'll Need
Timing light
Advance cure kit
Needle-nose pliers
Phillips head screwdriver

Step by Step :
1
Remove the distributor cap with a Phillips head screwdriver. Remove the rotor. Open the kit and lay out the different weights and springs along with the bushings. There are two of everything so match them up by the shape and color of springs. Open the spec sheet that comes with the kit. On the sheet it will state the specific colors of the springs and the RPM range for each. It will also specify which centrifugal weights to use for the proper speed of advance. The lighter the spring pressure, the faster the advance will increase, and the lighter the weights, the same result. Pick the ones that coincide with the range desired.
2
Detach the existing springs with a pair of needle-nose pliers. Lift off the current weights. Lift or pry off the two weight bushings located on the mounting studs. Install the new bushings to accommodate the new weights.
3
Install the new weights over the bushings on the weight mounting posts. Install the new springs of choice on the spring post and weight. Install the rotor and distributor cap and tighten them with the screwdriver.
4
Test-drive the vehicle. If the vehicle bogs down, check the timing for total advance. Total advance should be 34 to 36 degrees. If the total advance is too low or too high, loosen the distributor and rotate it to adjust the total advance then tighten it. Allow the engine to idle and check the advance--it should be around 16 degrees. Snap the throttle linkage while watching the timing light. The advance should immediately increase when the engine comes off idle. The faster the increase, the better. If the advance drags a little before jumping to full advance, try lighter springs.
Tips & Warnings
Plan the proper approach to the recurve to take maximum advantage of the timing advance. Look at the spec sheet on the current camshaft. If it is not available, it can be found online under factory specifications at the manufacturer's website.

The pertinent information relative to this upgrade is the amount of lift, the amount of degrees of duration and what the effective RPM range is. For instance, a Ford Mustang 5.0 would have .520 lift at 264 degrees of duration and have an effective range from 1,500 to 5,500 RPM. The recurve should raise the effective RPM to between 2,200 and 6,500 RPM with an increase in torque at a slightly higher peak RPM. This example depends on the amount of build on the engine and the final gear ratio. However, this is about all that a stock 5.0 is going to tolerate. Horsepower and resulting torque are a product of compression, RPM, the CFM of the heads, the quality and strength of the valve springs and so on. A stock 5.0 will peak in torque around 4,600 RPM. The valve will float above 6,500 RPM, significantly dropping the torque and horsepower levels. A larger camshaft, better heads, exhaust and intake will increase these parameters accordingly. Adapt the recurve to the advantage of the current equipment, whatever it may be.

Porsche . How to Set Points on a 1968 Chrysler Newport

The 1968 Chrysler Newport is equipped with a 383 cubic-inch V-8 engine with 300 horsepower and three-speed automatic transmission. The angled front-mounted distributor uses a breaker point type ignition. One of the basic tune-up procedures is the replacement of the breaker points and checking and adjusting the gap. This procedure is made easier thanks to the front-mounted distributor.
Difficulty:Moderate
Instructions Things You'll Need
Flat screwdriver
Feeler gauge set

Step by Step :
1
Park the Newport on a level paved surface and set the parking brake.
2
Remove the clips that hold the distributor cap by placing a flat screwdriver between the end of the clip and the distributor and prying outward with the screwdriver. The clip will pop out of the notch in the distributor cap. Lift off the cap and set to the side.
3
Lift off the distributor rotor by pulling straight up. Look at the shaft where you removed the rotor. You will see an eight-sided cam block on which the pivoting arm on the points set rides. One of the eight corners needs to be on or near the point arm. You can grab the distributor shaft and turn it by hand a small distance to get the point arm on the corner. If its too far away, use the starter to bump the engine a little bit until you can get the point arm on top of the corner. This is where you measure the point gap.
4
Check the gap by insertin a .017-inch feeler gauge between the point contacts. If it just slides in, the gap is too loose. If you see the feeler gauge push the contacts apart, even the slightest, the gap is too tight.
5
Adjust the gap by using a flat screwdriver to loosen the two screws that hold the point assembly to the distributor base plate. Don't loosen them too much. You want the screws to maintain some pressure on the point set.
6
Find the "V" notch on the metal base of the point set that the two screws are holding to the distributor. There will be a small notch in the distributor base plate next to the "V." Place a flat screwdriver in the "V," flat against the base plate. You will be able to catch the notch with the corner of the screwdriver and by twisting the screwdriver handle, open or close the point gap if necessary.
7
Check your adjustment by inserting the .017-inch feeler gauge into the point gap. You should be able to feel a slight resistance as you insert and remove the feeler gauge. When satisfied, tighten the two hold down screws on the point set. Recheck the gap. Sometimes, it moves when you tighten down the screws. Readjust if necessary.
8
Push the rotor back onto the top of the distributor shaft. It only goes on one way. Line up the tab on the inside of the rotor with the notch in the top of the shaft. Place the distributor cap onto the distributor. It only goes on one way. The cap has a notch on the outside of it that lines up with a tab on the outside of the distributor near one of the hold down clips.
9
Hold the distributor cap down with one hand while placing one of the hold down clips against the cap, just under the notch that the clip fits in. Push in on the center of the clip. This will push the end of the clip up and into the notch in the cap. Repeat for the other clip.
Tips & Warnings
If the contact on the point set are not flat or appear burned, replace the points. Also check your cap and rotor for excessive carbon buildup and wear.

4. Reconnect the little wire. Checking and adjusting thefuet/air mixture The easy way to check whether the fuel/air mixture is too rich or too lean is to run your finger around the end of the inside of your tailpipe (when the engine is cold, please). If a black, sooty deposit comes off on your finger, your fuel/air mixture is too rich. If the deposit is greasy or shiny, you're burning oil. A vehicle that's running too lean runs poorly only when it's cold. In either case, you'll find instructions for adjusting the idle mixture screw(s) and the choke in the following sections. If the adjustments you make don't help, you'll have to seek professional service. .Chapter 13: Keeping Your Fuel System in Tune OQ 1 Adjusting the idle mixture screw (s) If checking your fuel/air mixture shows that it needs to be adjusted or your engine isn't idling smoothly now that you've corrected its idle speed, the idle mixture screw (or screws) on your carburetor can do just that. Typical idle mixture adjustment adjustment screws screws. Because of federal and state smog standards, on vehicles built since 1981 idle mixture screws have been covered by metal plugs or by plastic limiter caps, which either don't allow you to adjust the screws or limit adjustments to around a quarter of a turn. These limitations were added to keep you from adjusting for a too-rich mixture that would result in an increase in the

With the car at idle speed, turn the idle mixture screw inward until the engine starts to falter. Then turn it back the other way, about half a turn. 2. If the engine is idling roughly, continue to turn the screw outward until the engine smoothes out. If you turn the screw too far outward, the too-rich fuel/air mixture will cause the engine to run roughly again. If you use a tach/dwell meter, you'll know that the engine is properly set when it returns to the highest idle speed after its initial drop when you turned the screw inward.
